About chineseposters.net

This website is an initiative of Stefan R. Landsberger (Leiden University, University of Amsterdam) and the International Institute of Social History (IISH, Amsterdam).

Stefan R. Landsberger is editor of the website and responsible for its contents; the IISH hosts and designs the website, with Marien van der Heijden as co-editor.

The aim of this website is to present the Landsberger and IISH collections of Chinese propaganda posters (over 4,000 pieces) through virtual exhibitions, theme presentations and a web-database. Additional information will be provided as well, including biographical notes of poster artistartists and resources. At present, only a modest start has been made. Over the next years, chineseposters.net will grow to become a true showcase for one of the most fascinating chapters in the history of poster propaganda, and a visual chronicle of the history of modern China.

chineseposters.net is part of a broader initiative. Landsberger and the IISH aim to continue collecting posters, to preserve their collections and to make them accessible to researchers and the broader public. Posters can be loaned for exhibitions and reproductions for publications can be ordered. These services are provided through the IISH. Information on loans for exhibitions and ordering reproductions can be found at http://www.iisg.nl/service.php; enquiries can be sent to the IISH by .

chineseposters.net is a platform for the presentation of authentic documentary and historical information without the aim to propagate or dispute any political views. chineseposters.net tries to provide information that may serve to understand the history of modern China. chineseposters.net is neither a shop nor an image bank, but a strictly non-profit initiative. Any income gained will be used to fund further acquisition, preservation, cataloguing and presentation of Chinese propaganda posters.

Some posters in the IISH collection were acquired with financial support from the Friends of the IISH and the Zuster Mart Nienhuis Stichting.
