Meng Yangyu (1934) is from Wenshui, Shanxi Province. Meng attended the Shanxi Art School for a short while and later taught himself. After 1952, he worked at the Liu Hulan Memorial and the Wenshui District Cultural Office, all the while creating art on the side. In his younger years, he made comic strips, New Year prints, Chinese paintings, etc., but mainly focussing on New Year prints. In his later years, he concentrated on figurative painting.
