Wang Xuyang (王绪阳)

wangxuyangWang Xuyang (1932) was a native of Zhuanghe, Liaoning Province. In 1952, he graduated from the Fine Arts Department of the Northeast Lu Xun Art Academy and then stayed on to teach at the school. Eventually, he became a professor in the Chinese Painting Department of the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts.

Wang is good at Chinese painting, but he also played a pioneering and important role in the creation of new comic strips. His comics "Child Labor" (童工) and "I want to read" (我要读书) won the first prize of the 1955 China Committee for the Defense of Children's Works Award and the first prize of the first National Comics Award.
