Chen Baiyi (陈白一)

Chen Baiyi (1926) was born in Shaoyang, Hunan Province. From an early age on, he was exposed to art. After his graduation from the Hunan South China Art School in 1946, he taught in Shaoyang. In the 1950s, he headed the Propaganda Section of the Hunan Provincial Agricultural Office, and subsequently he was employed in various organizations on the provincial and national levels.

His poster 'Cui Ying meets the parents of Luo Shengjiao' is based on a New Year picture Chen designed in 1954 for which he was awarded a prize. He contributed art work to the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Chen is specialized in colorful figurative drawing in the 工笔 gongbi style.
