Shen Fan (沈凡)
Shen Fan (1912) is from Zhuji, Zhejiang Province. A self-taught draughtsman, he joined the New Fourth Army in 1944; after the end of the Anti-Japanese War, he engaged in underground revolutionary activities in Shanghai. He became arts editor for the Liberation Daily (Jiefang ribao, 解放日报) in 1953. In 1961 he transferred to the Shanghai Art School to become Deputy-Head of the Oil Painting Department. He transferred again in 1977 to head the Shanghai Municipal Packaging Research Center. Shen retired in 1984.
