Tao Tianyue (1932-2023) was born in Changfeng, Anhui Province. He entered East China University in 1948 and from the following year on, he worked in various capacities for the Chinese Artists' Association.

Tao was known for his blockprints, some of which have been included in the collection of the China Art Gallery.
