Wu Jianzhong (1946) hails from Qinhuangdao, Hebei Province. Wu is a self-taught artist who joined the propaganda section and the club of the Qinhuangdao Harbor Office in 1974. Ten years later, in 1984, he became art editor for the Qinhuangdao Harbor News (Qinhuangdao gang bao, 秦皇岛港报).

Wu is known for his Chinese figurative paintings and his landscapes; his Chinese paintings and movie poster designs have been awarded with prizes.
