Wu Shihua (1938) was born in Jiangxi Province. He majored in painting at the Art Department of Jiangxi Normal University in the 1950s. After graduation, he engaged in art education at the university for a period of time. After that, he was responsible for artistic creation at the Jiangxi Provincial Exhibition Hall (formerly the Revolution Museum). Many famous paintings in China in the 1960s and 1970s were created collectively or individually by the art team he led. Some of the works were completed independently or with his participation. In the early 1960s, he presided over the design work of the Jiangxi Hall of the Great Hall of the People and served as the chief designer. During this period, he also designed Chairman Mao Zedong's daily porcelain clear flower series.
