Xie Pengcheng (1937) hails from Changsha, Hunan Province. In 1958, he graduated from the Hunan Nr. 1 Normal College. From 1980-1981 he took a refresher course in the Oil Painting Department of the Guangzhou Art Academy. He now works as an art editor with the Hunan Fine Arts Publishing House.

Xie is mainly known for his oil paintings, but he is also well-versed in watercolors. Some of his work has been included in the collection of the China Art Gallery.
