Xu Baozhong (1937) was born in Xin County, Shandong Province. In 1964, he graduated from the Oil Painting Department of the Lu Xun Art Academy, and in the same year he was employed by the Chinese Military Museum. He is still attached to the Museum.

Among the works by Xu Baozhong, the painting of Mao Zedong with his second wife, Yang Kaihui, counts as one of the most famous. Xu collaborated with Li Zehao on this painting.
