Zhang Leping (张乐平)

zhanglepingZhang Leping (1910-1992) was born in Haijian, Zhejiang Province. In 1934, he started drawing cartoons. Zhang joined Ye Qianyu and others in 1935 in an anti-Japanese cartoon propaganda team. In the 1950s, he worked for the Shanghai People's Fine Arts Publishing House, the Shanghai-based Liberation Daily [解放日报] and the Shanghai Youth and Children's Publishing House.

Zhang was known for his cartoons and comic strips, which included the famous San Mao [三毛]. In 1974, he collaborated on the design of the poster 'Hello uncles from the People's Liberation Army' with Li Mubai and Jin Xuechen.
