Zhang Zhichao (1923) was from Zhuji County, Zhejiang Province. He graduated from the Art Department of the National Central University in 1949. Later, he entered the Oil Painting Seminar of the Research Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts. He has successively served as the art editor of People's Northwest (人民西北) magazine and as art creator of the Xi'an Art Museum. In May 1993, he was hired by the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government as a librarian of the Shaanxi Provincial Research Institute of Literature and History.
