Mao, Jiang Qing, Lin Biao (1966-1972)
Three leaders dominate the
Cultural Revolution. First of course is Mao, presented almost as a god. The
Little Red Book is his Bible; his portrait gives the people strength. A picture of the young Mao becomes a true icon of the revolution. Second is
Jiang Qing, Mao's wife, who plays an important role. Nominally she occupies herself with cultural affairs, but in reality she tries to build up a political power base of her own. As she is not very popular, only a few posters are devoted to her. Third is
Lin Biao, Minister of Defense. He develops the
Mao Cult and tries to become Mao's successor.
