Mao, Jiang Qing, Lin Biao (1966-1972)
Three leaders dominate the Cultural Revolution
. First of course is Mao, presented almost as a god. The Little Red Book
is his Bible; his portrait gives the people strength. A picture of the young Mao becomes a true icon of the revolution. Second is Jiang Qing
, Mao's wife, who plays an important role. Nominally she occupies herself with cultural affairs, but in reality she tries to build up a political power base of her own. As she is not very popular, only a few posters are devoted to her. Third is Lin Biao
, Minister of Defense. He develops the Mao Cult
and tries to become Mao's successor.
