New: Aluminum Mao

On 4 May 1967, the first large-scale Mao statue appeared on the campus of Qinghua University. The first aluminum statue, unveiled at the Beijing Mining Institute on 26 December 1967, Mao's birthday. It set the standard for many more Mao-statues erected later.


New: Tourism

Even during the most climactic of the mass campaigns that engulfed the PRC during the first three decades of its existence, visual propaganda that engaged with some form of leisure was produced. Leisure activities, such as tourist trips by (model) workers to famous sites, were scripted and structured by the government.
