Cheng Baohong (1943) was born in Beijing. He graduated from the Chinese Painting Department of the Zhejiang Art Academy in 1965, and two years later he joined the People's Liberation Army, where he became involved in art work in the Political Department of the Wuhan Military Region.

Cheng is specialized in Chinese painting. The work "Comrade He Long in the Honghu Soviet" from 1978 is one of his best known pieces.
