Du Xianqing (1922-2013) was from Santai, Sichuan Province. In his youth, he studied music and drawing at the Southwest Art School. After his graduation, he taught art classes at middle schools. In 1950, he entered the Drawing Department of the Sichuan Art Academy. From 1986 on, he became a professor of Chinese painting at the same Academy.

Du was specialized in Chinese painting and flower-and-bird paintings.
