Du Xiuxian (1926-2014) was a photographer. He was born in Mizhi, Shaanxi Province. Coming from a poor family, he joined the Eighth Route Army in 1944 and studied photography under Wu Yinxian. In 1954, he was transferred to the Xinhua News Agency as a reporter, and successively served as the head of the photography group of the Beijing branch, the head of the Central News Group, and the deputy general manager of China Photo Agency. Representative photographs include the "Historic Handshake" of Zhou Enlai and Richard Nixon in 1972. In the 1960s, most of  the news pictures of Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai that appeared were by Du Xiuxian.
