Guo Tongjiang (1925-2003) was born in Dongguan, Guangdong Province. He taught himself to paint at the age of 7. Because of his poor family, he never went to a formal art school. He was a real peasant. In 1949, Guo's paintings based on his rural life experience were sent to the "South China Literature and Art (华南文艺)" magazine, which was an important place for literature and art in Guangdong at that time. This work immediately attracted the attention of the famous Guangdong painter Huang Xinbo and other painting veterans with vivid rural life themes and vivid brushstrokes. According to his son Guo Zhenhong, Guo Tongjiang, as the only national advanced worker in literature and art and national model worker in Guangdong Province, met with Chairman Mao, Liu Shaoqi, Deng Xiaoping, Ye Jianying and other national leaders.
