Hou Jie (1937) is from Taiyuan, Shanxi Province. He joined the workforce in 1956, and was a culture teacher at the Shanxi Machine Tools Factory, a propaganda worker at the Taiyuan Shanxi Provincial Mining Bureau and a staff member at the Taiyuan Workers Culture Institute. He finally joined the Taiyuan Painting Academy.

Hou has created blockprints and Chinese paintings; one of the latter has been included in the collection of the China Art Gallery.
