Hou Rong (1964) was born in Mianzhu, Sichuan Province. Good at oil painting and New Year pictures. In 1981, he was admitted to the Oil Painting Department of the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts. After graduating in 1984, he was assigned to the Mianzhu New Year Painting Club to work in the sorting, collection, and creation of folk New Year paintings; in 1987, he was transferred to the Sichuan Fine Arts Publishing House as an art editor.

Hou is known for his oil paintings and New Year pictures.
