Jiang Jianzhang (1925) was born in Yexian, Shandong Province. In 1948, he became editor of the Friendship Pictorial (友谊画报), published by the Dalian Sino-Soviet Friendship Association. After his graduation from the Dongbei Fine Arts Training School in 1957, he headed the Arts section of the Dalian Mass Art Institute.

Jiang is considered a specialist in Chinese painting and propaganda paintings.
