Jin Xianglong (1956) was born in Nanhui, Shanghai. His art education started in 1974, when he entered the Mass Art class of the Nanhui cultural centre. In 1976, he joined the People's Liberation Army. He perfected his techniques in 1983, when he attended the woodcut class of the Central Art Academy. He took up Chinese painting when he enrolled in the PLA Art Academy in 1985. He is currently attached to the propaganda section of the political department of Unit 80303 of the Second Artillery Group.

Jin specializes in Chinese painting and woodcuts.
