Li Baoliang (1941) was born in Jinxiang County, Shandong Province. Because of the influence of his parents, he liked painting since he was a child. After graduating from junior high school, he was admitted to the Art Department of Shandong Normal University and later transferred to the Shandong Art College (the predecessor of the Shandong Art Institute). The sketch "Lao He Gong" (老河公) created in his student days was selected for the 1960 National Art Exhibition, and his work was published in fine arts magazines. He graduated from university in 1962 and was assigned to the Yanzhou No. 3 Middle School. In 1963, he was transferred to Yanzhou Cultural Center to engage in professional art creation.
