Li Shuqin (1925-2022) was born in Handan, Hebei Province. He was involved in anti-Japanese propaganda at an early age, and studied making woodcuts. In his work, he combined folk art elements with revolutionary subjects. In 1950 Li started working at the People's Fine Arts Publishing House in Beijing, where he took on more and more administrative responsibilities. In his later years Li turned to landscape painting, especially of the Taihang Mountain region (太行山).
