Liu Juqing (1929-2023), also known as A Ju (阿菊), was born in Wujin County, Jiangsu Province. In 1948, Ms. Liu was admitted to the Hangzhou National Art School (now the China Academy of Fine Arts). In 1953, she graduated from the painting department there and was assigned to the Wuxi Donghua Art School (now the Nanjing Art Institute). From 1959 on, she taught Chinese painting at the Nanjing Art Institute.

Ms. Liu was known for her "meticulous" (工笔) flower-and-bird paintings.
