Liu Zheng (1949) was born in Tianjin. After she graduated from senior high school, she volunteered to work in Inner Mongolia; later, she was employed there as a school teacher. In 1974, she entered the Tianjin Art Academy. After her graduation in 1977, she was sent to work in the design section of the Yangliuqing (杨柳青) New Year Pictures Publishing House. She became editor at the same company in 1984.
