Shang Dezhou (1939) was born in Yulin, Shaanxi Province. After graduating from the Xi’an Art Academy in 1960, he taught at various schools. In 1978, he enrolled as a research student in the Oil Painting Department of the Zhejiang Art Academy, where he graduated in 1980. He currently is a professor at the Xi’an Art Academy.

Shang is known for his oil paintings and murals.
