Tong Jiemei (1940) is from Ningbo, Zhejiang Province. Tong is a self-taught artist. In 1959, he joined the People’s Fine Arts Publishing House, where he worked as an artist and art editor. He ended up heading the editorial board of the Comic Strips Illustrated (连环画报).

It should be no surprise that Tong is a master comic strip artist.
