Wu Maoxiang (1932) was born in Wenxian, Henan Province. He received no formal art training, but created works of art ever since he started working in primary schools, vocational schools and editorial offices in 1949. His last post was that of main editor of the Art Department of the Henan Daily (河南日报, Henan ribao).

Wu excels in Chinese painting and comic strips. For both genres, he has received numerous awards.
