Xu Rongchu (1934) is from Wujin, Jiangsu Province. In 1952, he enrolled in the Drawing Department of the Fine Arts Section of the North East Lu Xun Literature and Art Academy and after his graduation in 1955, he took up teaching. He is now a professor in the Oil Painting Department of the Lu Xun Art Academy.

Xu is known for his murals, for which he collaborated with Zhao Dajun (赵大军), and serial cartoons. Some of his works have been included in the collection of the China Art Gallery.
