Yan Guoji (1944-2000) was native of Tongxiang, Zhejiang Province. He graduated from the Chinese Painting Department of the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts in 1965. He was good at painting characters, especially sketching from life, but he also created landscapes and flower-and-bird paintings. He later lived in the U.S.
