Zhang Jiayan (1917- 2013) was from Nantong, Jiangsu Province. In 1935, she graduated from the Western Painting Department of the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts. In 1936, she entered the Art Department of the National Art College for advanced studies. She has served as assistant professor at the Hangzhou National Academy of Arts; the East China Branch of the Central Academy of Fine Arts; and as associate professor in the Department of Fine Arts and Crafts of Nanjing University of the Arts. Ms. Zhang excelled in Chinese painting.
