Zhang Longji (1929-2007) was born in Shengxian, Zhejiang Province. In 1953, he graduated from the Drawing Department of the Huadong (East China) Branch of the Central Art Academy. For many years, he taught at the Huadong Art Training School and the Shanghai Fine Arts Training School. He was later attached to the Shanghai Institute for Oil Painting and Plastic Arts.

Zhang specialized in oil painting, and some of his works have been included in national collections, including that of the China Art Gallery.
