Zhu Zongzhi (1930-1987) was from Wuxi, Jiangsu Province. In 1951, he graduated from the Suzhou Art School and in the following years, he worked as art editor for the Jiangnan Workers Daily (Jiangnan gongren ribao, 江南工人日报), the Jiangsu Workers Daily (Jiangsu gongren bao, 江苏工人报) and the Wuxi Daily (Wuxi ribao, 无锡日报). In the period 1961-1964, he studied at the Jiangsu Provincial Chinese Painting Academy; upon completion of his studies, he served in various capacities in the Wuxi branch of the Chinese Artists' Association, including the chairmanship.
Zhu was acclaimed for his figurative and flower-and-bird paintings, and for his serial cartoons.
