Han Heping (1932-2019) was from Harbin. The Anti-Japanese war forced him to move to Hangzhou, where he started his education as a painter at age 17. After graduation in 1953, he and his classmate Ding Binzeng joined the Shanghai People's Fine Arts Publishing House where they became comic strip illustrators. They were awarded a prize for their comic strip Railroad guerrilla.
Han occupied various teaching positions and took part in the establishment of the Painting Faculty under the Art Academy of Shanghai University.
