Jiang Fan (1924-2009) was from Changshu, Jiangsu Province. In 1949, he became editor of the art supplement of the Southern Jiangsu Daily (苏南日报). He taught at the East China (Shanghai) Branch of the Central Art Academy from 1951 on. Jiang joined the editiorial board of the monthly journal Cartoons (Manhua, 漫画) in 1953. Seven years later, in 1960, he became editor at the research department of the Central Art Academy. In 1979, Jiang transferred to the People's Daily (Renmin ribao, 人民日报), where he joined the editorial team of the weekly supplement Satire and Humor (Fengci yu youmo, 讽刺与幽默). Jiang retired in 1989.
All his life, Jiang has been a caricaturist.
