Liu Dachun (1941) was from Linshui, Sichuan Province. He graduated from the High School Attached to the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts in 1964, and later served as the art cadre of the Sichuan Aba Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture Cultural Center; in 1979, he worked as an art teacher at Qinghua Middle School in Chongqing. In the mid-1980s, he was blinded by a disease in his right eye, forcing him to paint with one eye. It has been his ambition to complete 15 large-scale works of the Three Gorges in his lifetime; by 2005, he had completed eight of them.
