Li Zaihua (李再华)

Li Zaihua (1918) was born in southern Sichuan. He was born in a poor family and lost his mother and father. Fortunately, he was helped by noble people. He was well-read and intelligent. He graduated from the Sichuan Art College in 1937 and received excellent teaching from Feng Jianwu, Shi Xiaochang and Liu Jiming. During the Anti-Japanese War, he served as the art director of the Chengdu People's Education Center. He often studied Chinese painting techniques and theories with masters of his generation such as Xu Beihong, and made great progress. He taught Chinese painting in Deyang, Bazhong, Zizhong Normal School and Middle School, and achieved remarkable results. Later, he went to Chongqing to establish the Qianjin Middle School and served as the principal. In 1946, he became an associate professor of the Southwest Academy of Fine Arts, and his students went all over the world. Later, he engaged in the creation and teaching of arts and crafts, and his works have participated in many exhibitions at home and abroad. After the implementation of the policy in the early 1980s, he returned to Chongqing and served as the deputy secretary-general of the Guoxiangshi Calligraphy and Painting Association; vice-president of the Qianjin Calligraphy and Painting Association; consultant of the Yuzhou Painting Garden; and professor of landscape painting at the Chongqing Senior University.
