Song Renxian (1938) was born in Rongcheng, Shandong Province. Song received no art training, but worked as a fisherman and as a laborer on a wharf until the late 1970s. The works he produced in his spare time were exhibited for the first time in 1974. In 1982, he transferred to the Yantai Regional Mass Art Center. He now works as an artist in the Yantai Art Institute.

Song designs New Year pictures. Many of his works, including the well-known poster "Experimental fields" from 1975 that he created with his younger brother, Song Renliang, have been included in the collection of the China Art Gallery.
