Born in Wuhan, Hubei Province, Wan Qiren (1940-2016) was admitted to the High School Affiliated to the Hubei Academy of Fine Arts in 1958 and graduated in 1961. In the same year, he entered the Oil Painting Department of the Hubei Academy of Fine Arts, and graduated in 1965. In the 1970s, he taught art at the "May 7th" Art School in Chengdu. In 1980, he entered the Chengdu Painting Academy.
