Yu Huali (1933-2014) was from Tianjin. In 1952, he started work for the Tianjin Artistic Workers Association, and became the editor of the Tianjin huabao [天津画报, Tianjin Illustrated]. He joined the Tianjin People's Fine Arts Publishing House in 1954, and remained attached to that organization.

Yu excelled in cartoons. He designed a poster during the 'Criticize Lin Biao, Criticize Confucius' Campaign in collaboration with Che Yongren.
