Zhang Daping (1945) was from Bobai, Guangxi Province. He loved painting since childhood and was self-taught. In 1965, after graduating from high school, he joined the production team in Laibin County, Guangxi Province. As an educated youth, he had various works published in the 1970s. After the "Gang of Four" was overthrown in 1976, he was transferred to the Guangxi People's Publishing House as art editor. From 1983 to 1984, he studied as a graduate student in Chinese painting. Until his retirement in 2005, he was mainly engaged in administrative work. In addition to participating in editing art books, he occasionally drew some covers or illustrations, and rarely participated in social art activities or creations. After retiring in 2005, he rekindled his creative passion.
