Zhang Wenyu (1933) was from Changping, Beijing. He enlisted in the army in 1949, doing art publicity work in the Art Troupe. Later, he transferred to the Cultural Department of the Political Department of the Beijing Military Region to engage in professional art creation and organization and guidance of amateur art.

Zhang is known for his Chinese paintings and printmaking. His woodcut "'Loving the People' model Xie Chen" was selected for the 3rd Military Art Exhibition
