Zheng Xiaojuan (1940) is from Changsha, Hunan Province. When she was young, her father taught her to appreciate drawing. After her graduation from middle school, she was 'sent to the countryside' to settle in the vicinity of Dongting Lake. In 1963, she graduated as a professional Chinese artist from the Arts Department of Hunan Normal University, and worked as an art teacher and in mass art centers. She transferred to the Hunan People's Publishing House in 1971 to illustrate publications for children. Later, she worked in the art editorial department of the Hunan Children and Youth Publishing House. Nowadays, Ms. Zheng is senior deputy-advisor to the Hunan Fine Arts Publishing House.
Ms. Zheng is known for her colorful works in the 工笔 gongbi ('meticulous')-style. Some of her works have been collected by cultural institutions such as the National Art Museum of China, the Chinese Painting Research Institute, and the China Exhibition Company.
