Zhu Ying (1919-2008) hailed from Xiaoshan, Zhejiang Province. He graduated from the Western Art Section of the National Art Training School in Chongqing in 1940. In the years that followed, he was active as an artist and as a teacher. He was attached as an advisor to Shanghai Jiaotong University and the Shanghai Institute of Science and Technology.
Although Zhu made ink-wash paintings in his early carreer, he is mainly known for his oil paintings.
