Wang Hui (1943) is from Liaoning Province. He graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1968. Currently, he is active as a painter. Moreover, he serves as a professor at the Painting and Calligraphy Center attached to the Chinese Literatures Association. While still at the Academy, Wang collaborated with Liu Chunhua on a number of works.

The poster Long live the victory of the proletarian revolutionary line with Chairman Mao as its representative! was originally designed in August 1967. A hundred copies were put up on Beijing's most important streets. In late September, early October 1967, Wang copied and enlarged the image to measure 22 metres by 9 metres. Hanging on the west side of Tiananmen Square, more than half a million people, including Mao Zedong himself, saw it during the 1 October festivities.
