The image on this poster was created in August 1967. A hundred copies were put up on Beijing's most important streets. In late September, early October 1967, designer Wang Hui copied and enlarged the image to measure 22 metres by 9 metres. Hanging on the west side of Tiananmen Square, more than half a million people, including Mao Zedong himself, saw it during the 1 October festivities. It was published on a poster in Shanghai:  BG E12/589-590. This poster consists of two sheets and is a "facsimile reprint" (复锢) published in Shandong province, with different slogans and the characters 红卫兵 (Red Guards) added on the red flags.
