Yan Jun (1918-1993) was born in Changsha, Hunan Province. He studied at the National Academy of Art (the predecessor of the Central Academy of Fine Arts) in the early 1940s. He is remembered, among other things, for his design of cigarette packages for the Kunming Cigarette Factory, in particular the "Da Chong Nine" (大重九) cigarette label (1949) and the "Red Camellia" (红山茶) cigarette label (1956).
