Wu Ruilong was born in Shanghai in 1948. In October 1972, the then 24-year-old Wu boarded the educated youth train amid the sound of gongs and drums and went north from Shanghai. A few days later, he arrived in freezing Heilongjiang Province, 50 kilometers away from the border, "accepting re-education from the poor and lower-middle peasants". Because of his passion for painting since childhood, he was ordered to make a huge portrait of the great leader in the vein of "Chairman Mao Goes to Anyuan", and the nearby garrison also invited him to draw propaganda posters extolling "Fearing neither hardship or death". Soon the local people said that "There is an educated youth who paints who looks like another in Shanghai." After that, he was transferred to the low brick house of the regional propaganda department to continue painting.
In 1974, the Daqing Oilfield came to the farm to recruit workers. The author became an oil worker in the oil production department. The Heilongjiang Provincial Publishing House organized a training course for creators across the province. The author created the poster "I Donate Oil to the Nation", which was reissued in 1976.
Wu specializes in serial cartoons and oil paintings.
