Lei Feng (雷锋, 1940-1962) is promoted as role model after Mao writes a calligraphy "Learn from Comrade Lei Feng" (in the top left corner). Innumerable posters devoted to him have been published, Lei Feng portraits are hanging in most schools. Even today, Lei continues to be promoted as the greatest example of self-sacrifice.
